New Affiliate Leader Orientation (NALO)
Please note: This NALO session will be held entirely virtual, and at no cost to affiliates.
The New Affiliate Leader Orientation is a weeklong orientation for executive directors, board members and staff members in leadership positions at local U.S. and Canada affiliates and affiliate support organizations. Leaders can be in a variety of positions and need not be necessarily "new" to their role to attend. NALO is designed to give a broad overview of the roles, requirements and responsibilities of affiliate leaders, along with available resources to support their work. Visit the NALO page for more details, such as what topics covered. Sessions are held 10 a.m.-5 p.m. EDT each day throughout the week.
There is an optional, half-day Habitat ReStore workshop specifically designed for affiliate leadership on Friday, February 27, 2:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. ET. Habitat ReStores can represent an enormous opportunity for an affiliate, but they come with substantial risks. The first 90-minutes of the session will provide a broad look at Habitat ReStores nationally, then guide attendees through the affiliate leader's role in maximizing a Habitat ReStore’s potential while minimizing the risks inherent to any resale operation. Attendees will be provided with tools and resources to implement best practices when you return to your affiliate.
Additionally, there is one four-hour course held after the official NALO week, Homeowner and Mortgage Services, which is also part of our new leader onboarding. That course will be held a few weeks after the orientation and those who register for NALO will receive an email with the date of the training and a link to register. QLO representatives are also encouraged to register and attend this training with their affiliate leader.
